Brian Laundrie Update: Possible Sighting In Florida Caught On Camera, Witness Claims
KEY POINTS
- A man resembling Laundrie was held at gunpoint by U.S. Marshals on Monday
- The man was later cleared by federal agents
- The search for Laundrie has been going on for almost a month
As the search for Brian Laundrie continues, Gabby Petito's fiancé was reportedly caught on camera riding an old bike along a country road in Florida.
The report came just as news surfaced that a man resembling the 23-year-old was held at gunpoint by U.S. Marshals on the Appalachian Trail.
The video, obtained by TMZ exclusively, was provided by a witness who claimed Laundrie was most likely the person in the surveillance camera footage. The video was shot on the outskirts of his property on Oct. 9 in Dunnellon – a small town, about three hours north of Laundrie's hometown of North Port, where his family lives, and reported by TMZ on Monday.
The witness alleged the area where the footage was taken has a rugged sugar sand path, which people rarely visit.
The unidentified man in the video is seen cruising down the trail on a bicycle. At first he resembles Laundrie, TMZ claims. However, this could not be confirmed and there has been no evidence to confirm if the man on the video was indeed Petito's fiancé.
The report claimed that the video has already been submitted to the FBI for review.
This is not the first time there have been reports of Laundrie's sighting in Florida. On Monday, a report claimed that an Ithaca couple -- Severin Beckwith and Anna Brettman -- was taking a nap at the Lodge at Fontana Villa Resort when U.S. Marshals knocked down the door to their room.
“Next thing I see is a bunch of guys with riot shields with ‘U.S. Marshals’ written on them. Handguns pointed at my face,” Beckwith told The New Yorker, adding he was questioned as he had the same “notch in the upper part” of the inner ear as Laundrie. Beckwith was later cleared by the federal agents.
Laundrie is the only one named as a person of interest in the death of Petito, whose body was found on Sept. 19 in Wyoming, at least three weeks after she was killed. A final autopsy result released Oct. 12 ruled that Petito died by “manual strangulation.”
Despite a search for Laundrie for almost a month, there has been no concrete clues as to his whereabouts.
