- She said the media misconstrued her words about meeting Brian
Brian Laundrie's sister Cassie has opened about her brother's disappearance, saying she doesn't know whether her parents had any involvement in it. She is also not sure if her brother killed YouTuber Gabby Petito.
Cassie and her husband said they were frustrated with the death of Petito and the disappearance of her brother, reported News Nation.
"We are just as upset, frustrated and heartbroken as everyone else," said Cassie while talking to protesters outside her home in Florida on Monday night. A video of it was shared by TikTok user @chroniclesofolivia.
Cassie revealed she was not in touch with her brother due to a family rift. She has also not spoken to her parents or their family lawyer.
However, the woman said she was sure that Brian flew home to Florida on or before Aug. 17, five days after he and Petito were pulled over by police in Utah. She didn't realize anything was wrong until police began questioning her family on Sept. 11.
When the protesters asked her if she thought her brother killed his girlfriend, Cassie replied, "I don't know." She gave the same answer when asked whether Brian is alive.
Cassie reportedly met Brian on Sept. 1 when he and their parents came to her home. She met him again on Sept. 6 with the family at Fort De Soto Park in Florida but had no reason to suspect there was any trouble.
She said she couldn't speak with her family during the investigation.
"I'm in the boat where I'm getting ignored by my family and thrown under the bus by my family's attorney," the woman said while criticizing the family's attorney, Steven Bertolino. She added that the media misconstrued her words about meeting Brian.
"The media ended up misconstruing what I said when they asked me if I had seen my brother," she added. "Like I said in the beginning, they didn't say have you seen Brian. It was, 'What's the weirdest thing about this all?'"
Cassie reportedly had told the reporters that "I haven't been able to talk to him. I wish I could talk to him."
Bertolino later corrected the statement saying Cassie was with the family at Fort De Soto campground, 75 miles away from the Laundries' North Port family home, on Sept. 6.
"Any prior communication by Cassie that does not reflect these dates is simply a difference of relating an answer to a question misinterpreted by Cassie or poorly posted by the inquirer," he said Saturday.
A manhunt for Brian continues in several locations, including the Appalachian Trail near the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, as well as parts of Florida.
