KEY POINTS

  • "Bridgerton" has been renewed for two more seasons ahead of the Season 2 premiere
  • Producer Shonda Rhimes celebrated the Season 3 and 4 order
  • Some fans are still hoping to see Regé-Jean Page in upcoming installments despite the announcement of his exit

While "Bridgerton" fans may still be heartbroken over Regé-Jean Page's exit, they still have more to look forward to from the Netflix period drama.

Following the announcement of the second season, Netflix has decided to renew "Bridgerton" again for Seasons 3 and 4. The announcement was made on Twitter Tuesday through a special message from Lady Whistledown which read, "It seems we have a rather special announcement. 'Bridgerton' shall return for seasons three and four. This author shall have to purchase more ink."

Bela Bajaria, vice president of global television at Netflix, said in a statement that the show "swept us off our feet," Us Weekly reported.

"The creative team, led by Shonda [Rhimes], knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come," Bajaria added.

"Bridgerton" producer Shonda Rhimes also released a statement regarding the order.

"From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience," she said. "But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team. This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy [Beers] and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience."

But while fans are excited about the upcoming seasons, some are still hoping that Page will reprise his role as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, at some point despite the announcement of his departure.

"The only thing the audience want to know., will the duke of hastings be back?!" one commented.

"Dearest Lady Whistledown, I see no mention of the earnest return of our beloved Duke of Hastings. Therefore, this message contains no merriment. Good Day.. I SAID, GOOD DAY.. " another added.

However, those who follow Julia Quinn's book series, which the Netflix show is based on, pointed out that "Bridgerton" is about the Bridgerton siblings and not the Duke of Hastings. Some expressed their excitement over getting to know the other characters who will be the focus of the upcoming seasons.

"Do you have any idea that this 8 book series features a different sibling in each book? I mean, it’s a little silly to expect the duke to be the focus of the entire TV series," one commented.

"Looking forward to it and getting to know the other characters especially Eloise. She’s hysterical!" a different user wrote.

The renewal announcement comes several days after Netflix and Shondaland confirmed Page's exit ahead of Season 2. The actor was offered $50,000 per episode to return for the upcoming season for three to five episodes but turned it down because he wanted to focus on doing films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
