British Fashion Awards: Victoria Beckham Nominated For Womenswear Designer Of The Year

Victoria Beckham has been nominated for coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards (BFA). She has figured in the top three names in the industry in Britain. The BFA will take place at the London Coliseum Nov. 23.

It is a huge accolade for the star; the BFAs are frequently dubbed the Oscars of the fashion world, and the Womenswear Designer of the Year award is the most sought-after of the event. The 41-year-old has twice previously been awarded brand of the year, in 2011 and 2014. She is a three-time nominee for the same award, but this is her first shot at the main prize.

The wife of retired football captain David Beckham is pitted up against Scotland-born Christopher Kane and JW Anderson. The latter is a trailblazer in gender neutral fashion, who subsequently has also been named as a nominee in the Menswear Designer category.

If the mother of four happens to win the trophy, she will join an impressive list of winners including Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Sarah Burton, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano.

The four Best Brand nominees this year have been named as Alexander McQueen, Anya Hindmarch, Burberry and Stella McCartney, while contenders for the red carpet include Christopher Kane, Erdem, Roksanda and Tom Ford.

This year the Model of the Year nominations include Georgia May Jagger, Jourdan Dunn and Malaika Firth. Last year the award was won by none other than model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne. The BFA this year will be hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall.

Seven years after her first collection, it represents acknowledgment of her label as a creative force as well as a commercial one. Her eponymous fashion label boasts annual sales of over 30 million pounds. She opened her first flagship store on London’s Dover Street in 2014.

Beckham has had a smooth transition from music to her now famous line, which was launched in 2008. Celebrities like Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Siennna Miller regularly wear her designs.

Her designs are known to be minimalist but at the same time elegantly and stylishly fashionable. The designer has worked hard to ensure that this is followed in all her collections. Her designs are liked by many and she has received rave reviews for her new collection during the recent New York Fashion Week.
