Britney Spears' Conservatorship Prevented 'Toxic' Singer From Making Major Life Decision
Since 2008, Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship, which means that she has not had the ability to fully make her own choices at times. As a result, the "Toxic" singer has, at certain points, had to look to others when it comes to doing various things in her life and with her money. Now, a new report has indicated that that hold over her previously extended to her having children with her long-term boyfriend, Sam Asghari, as well.
According to Us Weekly, in 2019, Spears, who is a mother of two, told a probate investigator that she wanted to have a child with her boyfriend of three years. However, revealed a source, her father, Jamie Spears, "had always been against Britney getting pregnant."
Previously, Jamie had been in charge of making various decisions for his daughter, along with lawyer Andrew Wallet. However, that power was ultimately turned over to Britney's care manager, Jodi Montgomery, when Jamie relinquished his power last year due to "personal health reasons."
In recent months, the "Crossroads" actress has attempted to obtain more power over her own life through a variety of legal steps surrounding the conservatorship but has been met with a variety of hurdles. Earlier this year, a judge ruled that the conservatorship was to be extended until April 30 due to the fact that those around her wanted to "figure out what is best for the pop star."
Then, in April, the hearing that was scheduled to address her future was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A follow-up court date has been set for July 22 and all temporary orders, including Montgomery's current role as conservator, have also been extended until Aug. 22.
Aside from Spears' legal troubles, she has remained in the news recently for a variety of other reasons. Not only has she hinted at taking a new step to distance herself from ex-husband Kevin Federline, but she also took to her Instagram in order to share "important" tips for getting through the COVID-19 crisis. Additionally, rumors also emerged that suggested she had been working on developing her own art show, but those were later debunked.
