Is Britney Spears' Ex-Fiancé Gay? Jason Trawick Says It Was A Prank
KEY POINTS
- Britney Spears' ex Jason Trawick denied rumors that he's gay
- The talent manager claimed that a friend pranked him by posting on his Instagram that he has a boyfriend
- Spears and Trawick got engaged in 2011 and split in 2013
Britney Spears' ex-fiancé Jason Trawick made waves on social media this week after allegedly coming out as gay via a post on his Instagram Stories.
But the 50-year-old talent manager denied the speculations, telling TMZ that the post was a prank by an unnamed "gay friend" when he left his mobile phone unattended.
"Ha no, it wasn't me. This is what happens when you leave your phone unlocked and unattended at brunch with a gay guy friend that thinks he's being funny and cute. I am not gay," Trawick told the outlet Tuesday of the post.
The Instagram Stories post in question was a photo of a living room with a portrait of Spears on the wall and text overlay that read: "At my boyfriend's apartment. Out and proud. Finally living my true self. This is me, people."
What seemed like a joke to Trawick was not the case for some social media users and fans of Spears. He received backlash because he has yet to address his ex-fiancée's conservatorship case, which dominated headlines for months last year.
"It's very infuriating and upsetting to see Jason Trawick take the time to give TMZ a statement reinforcing his straightness but then not discussing his views on @britneyspears abusive conservatorship. It's also very telling," one user wrote.
Another commented, "I think it's more productive to talk about Jason Trawick's potential violence, his role as conservator of Britney's person and him being a trash in general rather than relish in the idea of him being outed as if it's a real 'gotcha!' moment."
Spears and Trawick were first romantically linked in 2009, a year into her conservatorship, and got engaged in 2011. Following their engagement, Trawick became the "Toxic" hitmaker's co-conservator alongside her father Jamie Spears.
They split two years later, and Trawick stepped down as her co-conservator.
Last year, rumors surfaced among fans of the singer that Spears and Trawick secretly married but immediately divorced in 2012 following the release of documents that showed her conservatorship put a lawyer on retainer shortly before their 2013 breakup, the Daily Mail reported.
However, Trawick denied that they were ever married, and no marriage license was ever filed.
Spears' 13-year conservatorship was terminated in November last year. She married Sam Asghari on June 9 after five years of dating.
Recently, the "Hold Me Closer" singer released via YouTube a bombshell 22-minute audio clip, in which she detailed the alleged abuse she experienced as a result of her conservatorship, including being forced into a mental health facility in 2019 because she objected to a dance move, according to Page Six. The audio clip has since been set to private.
Spears also shared in the voice memo that she declined "lots of money" to do an interview because she didn't want to get paid for telling her story, calling the idea "silly."
