Britney Spears' Missing Dogs Triggered Dispute With Housekeeper; Singer Blames Father – Report
KEY POINTS
- Britney Spears confronted her housekeeper Monday over her missing dogs, a report says
- The housekeeper allegedly brought Spears' dogs to a veterinarian but never brought them back home
- Spears reportedly suspected that her dad, who pays her housekeeper, had something to do with their disappearance
Britney Spears' dogs were taken from her earlier this month, triggering her dispute with her housekeeper that led to the singer being investigated for alleged battery, a report says.
Sources "directly connected to" Spears told TMZ that one of her pets became sick two weeks ago. Her housekeeper reportedly brought that dog, as well as the singer's other dog, to a veterinarian but never brought them back home.
Spears' dog sitter, who is also a nurse, allegedly took her pets under her care because she believed they were not safe in the pop superstar's home, sources told the outlet.
Spears then called the Ventura County Sheriff's Department on Aug. 10 to report a theft in connection to her missing dogs, the insiders added. However, when the cops arrived, she reportedly had a change of heart and sent them away.
By Monday, Spears' dogs had still not been returned, and she had no clue about their whereabouts. The sources said the singer suspected her father, Jamie, may have had something to do with their disappearance.
According to TMZ's sources, Spears confronted her housekeeper, demanding to know where her dogs were. The housekeeper reportedly shared her concerns that the dogs were being neglected and showed the singer photos she had taken on her cellphone of one of the dogs that had just thrown up.
Spears reportedly believed that the housekeeper, who gets paid by her dad, sent Jamie the photos of the dogs and that he called the dog sitter to take the dogs away.
However, sources with direct knowledge of the incident told TMZ that Jamie is "totally in the dark on what goes on in her home" because "he's been shut out."
"Britney is demanding answers," an unnamed insider told Page Six. "She's been through this before. Her conservators used to threaten to take her children away from her, and now her dogs are nowhere to be found. It’s an all too familiar — and heartbreaking — feeling for her."
Spears is reportedly under investigation for battery, with the housekeeper alleging that the singer slapped her phone out of her hands during their dispute at the star's California home. Police confirmed that there were no injuries reported and that the incident was classified as a minor misdemeanor battery.
Spears' lawyer Mathew Rosengart called the allegation "sensational tabloid fodder."
"This is ... nothing more than an overblown alleged misdemeanor involving a 'he said she said' about a cell phone, with no striking and obviously no injury whatsoever," the former federal prosecutor said in an email to NBC News. "Anyone can make an accusation. This should have been closed immediately."
Spears' conservators — Jodi Montogomery, conservator of the person, and Jamie, conservator of her estate — are allegedly attempting to wash their hands clean of the incident involving her dogs.
"Mr. Spears, who runs the estate of Ms. Spears, has hired a day-to-day caretaker for Ms. Spears’ pets. Ms. Montgomery has never been responsible for the care of animals since she began working with Ms. Spears in September of 2019," Montgomery’s attorney, Lauriann Wright, told Page Six Friday.
The outlet reached out to Jamie for comment, but his lawyers did not immediately respond.
However, an unnamed source pointed out to Page Six that "Jamie is the conservator of the estate not of the person. Jodi Montgomery has been in control of the conservatorship of the person since 2019. Anything [pertaining to the animals] would fall 100% under the conservator of the person."
