Britney Spears And Sam Asghari Will Have A Prenup Agreement, Lawyer Reveals
KEY POINTS
- Britney Spears and Sam Asghari announced their engagement on Sept. 12
- Britney's lawyer says they are in the process of crafting the prenup
- Britney also had a prenup agreement with ex-husband Kevin Federline
Britney Spears’ lawyer has disclosed information about the singer’s marriage plans with fiancé Sam Asghari. Britney and Asghari announced their engagement on Instagram on Sept. 12, five years after they started dating.
In a supplemental filing on Sept. 22, Britney’s lawyer called for the immediate suspension of Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears, as the singer’s conservator.
In the court documents filed, Britney’s lawyer said the plea to immediately remove Jamie from his position was due to Britney’s recent engagement to Asghari, saying the singer has plans to get a prenuptial agreement to protect her assets.
“To all the reasons why immediate suspension always has been required, we now can add another essential one: as has been publicly reported, Ms. Spears recently became engaged. With Ms. Spears’ consent and pursuant to her instructions, Ms. Spears and the undersigned counsel are in the process of engaging family law attorney to craft a prenuptial agreement,” the court papers stated.
The lawyer explained that the prenup agreement process would require “communications with and cooperation from the conservator of her estate,” but given that Britney’s relationship with her father as conservator is broken, Jamie’s continued involvement would only impede the singer’s ability to negotiate and consummate a contract that is in her best interests.
“As we have previously stated, Britney Spears’s life matters. Britney Spears’s well-being matters,” the court filing read. “And under the circumstances, every day matters because every day Mr. Spears clings to his post is another day of anguish and harm to his daughter, which is avoidable via immediate suspension,” the file stated.
The move comes after the lawyer filed legal papers in July requesting the removal of Jamie as co-conservator and overseer of Britney’s $60-million estate.
Jamie later stated in court that he was willing to step down, filing to end the conservatorship entirely.
After Britney and Asghari announced their engagement, many of their fans, including Octavia Spencer, urged the singer to get a prenup.
Britney previously had a prenup agreement with her second ex-husband, Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two sons.
