KEY POINTS

  • Albert Okwuegbunam is drawing interest from multiple NFL teams
  • The Broncos could relegate Okwuegbunam to the bench
  • William Jackson III could be a great addition, but the Broncos lack the assets to trade

A tight end for the Denver Broncos could end up with another team soon, especially with the NFL trade deadline fast approaching.

Set for November 1, one player who could end up playing for another ballclub is Albert Okwuegbunam.

According to multiple outlets, the 24-year-old player is being eyed by several teams.

Okwuegbunam was projected to be someone who could become the top tight end for the Broncos following the exit of Noah Fant, who was part of the Russell Wilson trade in the offseason.

However, things have not gone well for the former Missouri Tiger, managing only 16 snaps in the last three weeks.

He sat out the Broncos' Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, a match that Denver lost 16-19.

In his absence, rookie Greg Dulcich was called upon to fill in the void.

Last season, the former fourth-round pick started in six games, catching 33 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns.

Unfortunately, things have not necessarily been bright for the Illinois native since a five-catch performance in Week 1.

Instead, Broncos coach Nathanial Hackett has gone with his reserves Andrew Beck, Eric Saubert and Eric Tomlinson.

Together with the emergence of Dulcich, Okwuegbunam has fallen down the team's official depth chart at No. 5.

It was also added that Okwuegbunam would have ended up on the bench if Dulcich had gotten his chances earlier.

The 22-year-old tight end missed Denver's first five games due to a hamstring injury.

Hence, a potential NFL trade could happen on or before November 1.

However, pundits feel that any deal involving Okwuegbunam would hardly be more than a late first-round draft pick.

As far as other targets, two names have been linked to the Broncos–Christian McCaffrey and William Jackson III.

Unfortunately, McCaffrey is no longer on the table after the Carolina Panthers sent the 26-year-old running back to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for multiple picks.

Jackson could be a sensible target if the Broncos find a way to strike a deal.

The fact that Denver lacks draft capital they can include in any NFL trade is something that has limited their options for getting good players.

With Ronald Darby out due to an ACL injury he suffered against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, getting Jackson in the fold would make sense.

The Washington Commanders cornerback is a good man-coverage corner and would be a solid fit for what the Broncos are doing defensively.
