Bruce Jenner Opens Up About Gender Reassignment Surgery Plans; ‘That’s Kind Of The Last Thing You Can Do’
Bruce Jenner is in no rush to finalize his transition from male to female. During part two of E!’s “Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce” special on Monday, the former Olympian opened up to his two daughters, three stepdaughters and former wife about his plans to undergo gender reassignment surgery.
According to Bruce, he’s in no rush to have the surgery done. In a conversation with stepdaughter Kim Kardashian, whom he previously revealed has been the most open and accepting of his transition, the 65 year old revealed that gender reassignment surgery will be “the last thing” he does. During Sunday's first half of the TV special, Bruce claimed he hoped to be done with his transition by this spring, however, he appears to have changed his mind. The athlete turned reality star said that there are plenty of other operations and treatments he intended to have done before having his male genitalia removed.
“That’s kind of the last thing you can do. You can do an awful lot before then,” he said.
When asked whether or not he had scheduled an appointment to have the operation Bruce said, “No. As of right now, no.” The episode was shot in February. In regards to the other aspects of his transition - wearing women’s clothing, changing his name, etc. - Bruce said he was “going to just play it by ear.” He added that “[Living as a man] would be hard after you do enough stuff.”
At the time the episode was shot none of Bruce’s kids, including his three sons and one daughter from previous relationships, nor his ex-wife Kris Jenner, had formally met his female persona. After getting over the initial shock of his many revelations though, they were each eager to meet “her.” Kim, who went through Bruce’s female wardrobe during the show, has since had the opportunity to see her step-father dressed as a woman and says she is “amazing” and “looked beautiful.”
Bruce has not announced when he plans to begin living publicly as a woman. He did, however, promise “You will see me and you will know” as a guide on when to refer to him using female pronouns.
