  • Man Utd defeated Brentford 3-0 in the league Monday
  • Bruno Fernandes scored Man Utd's first goal
  • Fernandes now has netted 50 competitive goals for Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes' latest record is a testimony to the positive influence he has had at Manchester United since his arrival in January 2020.

Fernandes opened the scoring for Manchester United in their 3-0 win over Brentford in the Premier League on Monday. The goal marked the Portuguese midfielder's 50th goal in all competition for the Red Devils. Fernandes now has scored more goals for the club than any other player – 21 more than teammate Marcus Rashford (29 goals), according to Opta Joe.

Since Fernandes' arrival in the Premier League, only Mohamed Salah (73) and Harry Kane (65) have been involved in more English top-flight goals than the player (61 – 36 goals and 25 assists, level with Son Heung-Min).

In a post-match interview after Manchester United's latest victory over Brentford, Fernandes said trophies matter to him more than goals.

"It is a long time since I scored. Obviously, I am happy but those numbers don't count for me. I want to get numbers with trophies and not with goals," Fernandes was quoted by Goal.

Even though the attacking midfielder was happy with his side's performance against Brentford at Old Trafford, he admitted that they have had a poor run in the ongoing season.

"Last game of the season at home, we wanted to give a good result and good performance. We know our standard has not been the same as we expect but last game of the season we finish well at home. Now we have more games to go so focus on those. We know that we always have to give something," said Fernandes before hailing Man Utd's supporters.

"The fans have been amazing supporting us. We know that our season has not been at the level it should be but there is nothing we can do now but finish in the best way possible, win games and after think of the next season," the 27-year-old soccer star added.

With 58 points in 36 games, Manchester United are placed sixth in the 2021-22 Premier League table. They are hoping to have a revived campaign next term under new boss Erik ten Hag.
