BTOB's Minhyuk Among Korean Celebrities Who Tested Positive For COVID-19
KEY POINTS
- Minhyuk was confirmed positive for the virus Saturday
- The singer is now in self-isolation
- Taping schedules were on hold as several South Korean celebrities tested positive
Boy band BTOB’s Minhyuk is perhaps the latest Korean celebrity to test positive for COVID-19.
On Sunday, Koreaboo confirmed the news, citing an official announcement by the 30-year-old singer’s management agency, Cube Entertainment.
According to the statement, Minhyuk was tested positive for the virus Saturday after it was found his vocal trainer had contracted the disease early last week. Minhyuk's two previous tests yielded negative results, but the third test at a health center he had visited because of cough and fever returned positive results.
Cube Entertainment assured fans Minhyuk was now in self-isolation, and they were helping the star to recover quickly.
Training and filming schedules have been disrupted as a number of celebrities in the South Korean entertainment and sports industry were forced to go into self-isolation after they tested positive for COVID-19 in the past weeks, Koreaboo reported.
Doyoung, a member of the boyband, TREASURE, tested positive on July 13, and was still in self-quarantine. On Saturday, another member of the group, Junghwan, tested positive, and was also in self-isolation. Junghwan’s first test was negative, but a second test proved positive.
No other TREASURE member was tested positive for COVID-19, even though all of them are now in self-quarantine.
Singer Seo In Young was also reported to have tested positive for the disease on July 13.
The other celebrities who are now in recovery after testing positive for the virus are stars of the TV show "Let’s Play Soccer Together 2," which is also known as "We Kick Together 2." These include former volleyball player Kim Yo Han, former judo athlete Yoon Dong Shik, former speed skater Mo Tae Bum, former tennis player Lee Hyung Taek and former swimmer Park Tae Hwan. According to Koreaboo, Kim Yo Han was the first among the cast to have been tested positive for the virus on July 15.
Lee Hyung Taek will be relieved of his sports commentator duties for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics coverage at KBS.
On Friday, model and TV personality, Han Hye Jin was also confirmed positive of COVID-19, Soompi said. She and Kim Yo Han appear together in the variety show, “Leader’s Romances.”
Meanwhile, all the cast members of “PPong School” also underwent testing for COVID-19 following news of Parks Tae Hwan’s results. Park Tae Hwan had guested in the show prior to his test. One of the show’s regular cast members, Trot singer Jang Min Ho, tested positive Saturday, and taping for the show has been promptly canceled.
Last week, Lee Sang Gon of boyband “Noel” was also found positive after one of his co-stars in the play, “Love is Timing,” tested positive for the virus.
