“Super Tuna” is not included in the list of songs that BTS will be performing for the “Permission To Dance” concerts in Seoul which are slated on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
This was revealed by Jin in a recent chat with fans via Weverse together with fellow BTS members J-Hope, V and Jungkook. The “Butter” singers took time to connect with fans and shared their thoughts about the upcoming concert -- the first time the group is performing for a live audience in Seoul since 2019.
In the live chat, the foursome split into two pairs with Jin and J-Hope pairing up. When J-Hope asked Jin if he had prepared anything for the encore, he revealed he had planned to sing his hit solo track “Super Tuna” which he released as a birthday present for his fans last December. However, Big Hit music executives said he is not allowed to sing the song during the concert.
“They said I can’t do it because it’s a solo song,” the 29-year-old singer and dancer explained. To console his fans, he said he will sing the song in a future fan meeting.
“Super Tuna” quickly stole the hearts of many when it was released. It debuted at No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs list and is currently at No. 6 on the chart. With its easy-to-learn dance steps and catchy rhythm and lyrics, the track also inspired a viral TikTok challenge. Even the colorful Teletubbies jumped on the trend and danced to the tune of “Super Tuna” in a video that was liked over 2 million times on the video-sharing platform.
It garnered even more likes and views after being uploaded on Twitter. “Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po thought the #SuperTunaChallenge was smooth like butter and had to give it a try themselves,” the official Twitter page of the Teletubbies wrote in January which showed a clip of the popular children's show jamming to "Super Tuna."
“Super Tuna” also caused a dog toy from discount chain Target to fly off the shelves in December as fans scrambled to get the blue plushie at the height of the song’s popularity.
The one-minute song was co-produced by Jin with BUMZU, who also provided the synthesizer and the background vocals. “Super Tuna” is considered a trot song that falls under the genre of Korean pop music characterized by distinctive singing. Trot songs became popular in Korea in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
