BTS' Jungkook Celebrates 24th Birthday With Online Solo Concert, Original Composition For Fans
BTS' youngest member, Jungkook, turned 24 Wednesday. An hour before the clock struck 12 am in South Korea, he started a solo two-hour concert online, during which he performed an original composition dedicated to his fans.
He also sang past BTS songs and a few covers, including Justin Bieber's "Off My Face."
A day before his birthday, Jungkook shared a selfie and asked the group's loyal fanbase, popularly known as "ARMY," for birthday messages via fan-to-artist online community platform Weverse. At 10 a.m. ET on Aug. 31, he took to VLive, a livestreaming platform to surprise fans with a new song, which he composed using his favorites among the messages he received on Weverse.
"For every day, I miss you / For every hour, I need you / For every minute, I feel you / For every second, I want you," he sang with a delighted look on his face.
"Suddenly in the distance shining like a purple light / You turn around and smile so bright / Reaching out, you take my hand from then / I know everything will be alright," he continued.
As expected, the hashtag #HappyBirthdayJungkook became a worldwide trending topic on the same day, with more than 1.5 million tweets dedicated to BTS' brilliant singer and songwriter.
At least 20 million fans anticipated Jungkook's livestream as well, the VLive counter indicated as per Teen Vogue.
As if a new song weren't enough, Jungkook also sang past BTS hits, such as "Paradise," "Dimple" and "Born Singer." BTS has not performed "Paradise" for years, though fans have repeatedly requested it.
Before he sang the well-loved 2018 track, Jungkook failed to recognize the English title of the song.
"Is that Paradise? We have a song called Paradise? Huh? Ohh, I was surprised. Do you mean Nakwon, Korean name for Paradise?" he said.
After realising, the amused BTS member made the ARMY's wish come true and sang the song with so much fervor.
Jungkook then sang the group's 2017 hit "Dimple" from the album "Love Yourself." Like "Paradise," fans have also been clamoring for a live performance of this song, which talks about feeling thrilled to see someone's smile and dimple.
The BTS member also sang in English as he performed Justin Bieber's "Off My Face."
During the live broadcast, J-Hope surprised Jungkook with a birthday cake and sang a spirited "Happy Birthday" to the birthday boy.
