KEY POINTS

  • “Proof” sold a total of 314,000 equivalent album units in the first week
  • The sales consist of 266,000 traditional album sales and 36,000 streams
  • BTS is the only Korean artist to top Billboard 200 with six different albums

BTS’ new album “Proof” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart making it the group’s sixth number one album on the said music chart.

Once again, the Korean supergroup proved their selling power by achieving the biggest U.S. sales week of any album by a group in 2022. “Proof” sold a total of 314,000 equivalent album units during the week ending on June 16, according to Luminate (formerly MRC Data).

The sales consist of 266,000 traditional album sales, 12,000 track equivalent album (TEA) units, and 36,000 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units—which translates to 52.84 million on-demand audio streams in the album’s first week.

“Proof” comes second to sales of Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House” which garnered 521,000 total equivalent album units of which, 330,000 were album sales after its launch in May.

This recent achievement makes BTS the first and only Korean artist ever to top Billboard 200 with six different albums. The other BTS albums that made it to the peak of the list are “Love Yourself: Tear,” “Love Yourself: Answer,” “Map of the Soul: Persona,” and “Map of the Soul: 7,” and “BE.”

Just recently, BTS’ management label HYBE clarified that the group is not going on hiatus. Rather, its members will begin exploring individual projects alongside team activities. The clarification came after shares of the company took a nosedive following the surprise announcement made by the boy band during a dinner video.

Meanwhile, “Yet To Come,” the lead single of “Proof” crossed 100 million views on YouTube just 10 days after it dropped on the video streaming platform on June 10.

BTS also shared a peek into the filming process of "Yet To Come" which detailed the difficulties the members had to endure while shooting the music video in the desert in Las Vegas. The video showed the members enduring harsh winds with the sand getting into their clothes and eyes during the production.

“I’ve done shoots in deserts before but this is the strongest wind I’ve seen,” rapper Suga said at one point in the video.

“Yet To Come” is BTS’ 39th music video to reach 100 million following “Dope,” “Fire,” “Blood Sweat & Tears,” “Boy in Luv,” and “Save Me” among others.
