BTS' Suga Makes Billboard History, Only Solo Korean Male Musician To Chart Multiple Times
KEY POINTS
- BTS rapper and songwriter Suga is reportedly Billboard's most charted solo Korean male artist
- The K-pop icon has racked up several spots on the Billboard music charts repeatedly
- Suga's impressive record proves that he has his own solid following on top of being a BTS member
BTS member Suga has reportedly appeared on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart more than 30 times.
In a report by Forbes, the 27-year-old rapper-singer has bagged several spots in the chart annals, proving his solid following. And with the member significantly frequenting the chart list, Suga’s personal career in the music industry will definitely be fortified, on top of him being a member in one of the most internationally acclaimed K-pop bands.
The K-pop icon’s most recent return to the Digital Song Sales chart was as a featured guest on fellow Korean artist IU’s latest single “Eight.” The track has managed to rack up an impressive sale sum, after only less than half a tracking week. Suga and IU’s “Eight” landed at no. 13 on the music chart, missing out on becoming a top 10 hit by only a few notches.
Besides this, another song on the Digital Song Sales chart has also opened up newer spots for Suga, making him one of only four solo Korean male artists to have reached the list. Also joining the BTS crooner are three of his other band members, namely J-Hope, RM and V. The three band members are the only other male Korean acts that have placed on the ranking at least once, also appearing on the chart’s tally in the past year.
Based on the tally history for a solo Korean male musician, the 13th spot for “Eight” makes it the fourth highest-charting song with V’s “Sweet Night” as the lead. Just last year, J-Hope and Becky G’s “Chicken Noodle Soup” reached no. 9 on the chart list, while Suga’s other charting success, “Suga’s Interlude” with Halsey and BTS landed the 10th spot in December 2019.
Given all the song titles that triumphed the music chart records, Suga is officially the only solo Korean male musician to have reached Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart perennially. The impressive record of the BTS member shows how he went years without one placement on the list, according to Forbes.
And in only a span of six months, Suga has managed to make two spots on the chart records, making history in the process of his own music career.
