Buckingham Palace ‘Could’ve Done More’ To Prevent This Situation
Reports of an alleged massive feud amongst the youngest senior royals may have finally quelled, but now, following months of speculation over an alleged rift among the houses of Cambridge and Sussex, Buckingham Palace is finding itself blamed for things getting as out of control as it did.
During an appearance on Yahoo UK’s The Royal Box, PR expert Nick Ede stated that as rumors of a feud between Princes William and Harry, as well as rumors of a feud between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, continued to spiral out of control, Buckingham Palace made a severe error by not doing anything to stop it.
“They could have killed these stories pretty quickly and they could have made it much, much sharper, even just getting them all out together on some kind of event and having them all out together laughing and smiling,” he said. “But they didn’t do it.”
Ede admitted it could have been handled better and Buckingham Palace could have done more to try and make the four seem like a more cohesive unit again, though royal commentator Robert Jobson chimed in that the reason why the palace didn’t speak out and put a stop to the reports with staged outings was because, on some level, they were true, and trying to make it seem like that wasn’t the case would have backfired.
“There was something to the story, that’s the point,” he said.
Rumors of a rift came shortly after the couples announced they were splitting their royal households and ranged in terms of who was involved and why a feud started. Stories surfaced that Middleton and Markle had been feuding since before the latter’s wedding to Prince Harry, where she made her future sister-in-law cry, as did reports that the brothers were the ones who were actually locked in a feud because Prince William had questioned the speed of the relationship.
Most recently, there had also been stories claiming the brothers had feuded because of the story alleging that Prince William had cheated on his wife with her friend, Rose Hanbury, and his brother became enraged he would do the same thing that their father had done to their mother, Princess Diana.
None of the stories have been officially commented on by the palace, though the reports of a feud were seemingly put to rest after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted visiting Prince Harry and Markle at their new home in Frogmore Cottage.
