Bucks vs. Celtics: Antetokounmpo Says Game 2 Tactics Will Remain The Same
The Milwaukee Bucks are having a dream season after registering 60 wins in the regular season to have the best record in the NBA and then demolishing Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs. But their momentum was brought to a screeching halt by Boston Celtics, who registered a surprise but well-earned 112-90 win over the Eastern Conference favorites in Milwaukee.
Brad Stevens’ team seems to have found a chink in the armor after finding a way to contain MVP favorite Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks might have to reassess their approach when they host the Celtics at Fiserv Park on Monday night but Antetokounmpo and head coach Mike Budenholzer are reluctant to change the approach after just one loss.
The Greek Freak had one of his worst performances of the season - 7-for-21 FGs, a minus-24 rating - according to NBA.com, after the Celtics countered his aggressiveness with some astute defense, but he made it clear that the team is going to follow the approach that has worked for them throughout the campaign.
“No, no. Definitely not. We’re just going to keep doing what we’ve been doing all year,” forward Antetokounmpo said. “I don’t think there should be no change at all. Why should there be a change after a game that we lost, like … we should not be the team that makes the adjustments.”
Antetokounmpo was supported in his claims by center Brook Lopez, who believes the team should just continue shooting even if they miss “10-out-of-10 times. He said: "The way we’ve been playing all season has been just letting it fly. So even if we miss it 10-out-of-10 times, just keep [shooting].”
And the duo’s claims were backed by the head coach, who said adjustments and changes are sometimes “overrated”. So it looks like the Bucks – the favorite to progress from the Eastern Conference – will deploy the same tactics when the Celtics return to Fiserv Arena or they could surprise them with a different tactic by keeping their cards close to the chest.
