Bugatti's $18.68 Million La Voiture Noire: How To See The Super Car
Bugatti will unveil its $18.68 million La Voiture Noire to the North American market at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance in Monterey, California, on Tuesday. Dubbed the most expensive new car in the world, the La Voiture Noire was first unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March and will spend the next few days on display at the prestigious California auto show.
Details on the La Voiture Noire include plenty of power from its quad-turbo W-16 engine that is rated 1,500 horsepower. It has 1,180 pounds per feet of torque and can reach 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. Top speed on the car is 261 mph.
The La Voiture Noire, which translates to The Black Car, was designed for the ride as designers capped its top speed to allow for better cornering, CNBC reported. The car also reportedly takes on the art deco style of the Type 57SC Atlantic of which only four were made.
"We produced a true one-off, a single unit car that we call automotive haute couture," Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti's design director told CNBC. "It's not just a car anymore, it's really more like a piece of art in line with the highly exclusive fashion and luxury brands in France."
The La Voiture Noire that will be on display in Pebble Beach has been purchased, but the buyer has not been named by the automaker with rumors circulating that it might be soccer player Cristian Ronaldo or the former chairman of VW, Ferdinand Piech, who also owns Bugatti, according to the news outlet.
The car, however, still needs over two years to be completed and it is such an exclusive car, its sketches were only offered to one buyer, who bought it on the spot, CNBC said.
"The idea of La Voiture Noire was 100% born within Bugatti, it doesn't come from the customer," Anscheidt said. "However, with it being a one of one, the customer enjoys the freedom to create specific detailing with us."
The La Voiture Noire is just one of four custom cars that Bugatti has plans to launch over the next few years. The automaker is reportedly expected to unveil a super car that falls between the La Voiture Noire and Divo at this week's Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance.
