Burger King Fans Confused Over Pride Whoppers: ‘What A Strange Advertisement’
Burger King customers have taken to Twitter to share their confusion over the latest promotion from the chain which celebrates Pride Month.
The promotion is only available from Burger King Austria and includes a Pride Whopper that has two identical buns – either two top buns or two bottom buns – with all the Whopper ingredients.
The campaign from the burger chain posted on Instagram read, “Time to be proud.”
On its website, Burger King Austria posted about the promotion, as translated by Today, writing, “For equal love and equal rights.”
It continued by saying, “We are setting an example for individuality and freedom and stand for a respectful interaction with each other. Equal rights. Empathy. Understanding. No matter where you come from, no matter who you love, no matter what you look like or what you believe in: Time to be proud.”
While the promotion was designed to show support for Pride Month and LGBTQ+ rights, many Burger King customers weren’t a fan of the two-sided buns promotion.
One customer said on Twitter, “What a strange advertisement. I'll take my Whopper with a regular bun because ordering fast food doesn't need to be a political statement for me.”
Burger King has introduced a new "Pride Whopper" where you can order it with two tops or two bottoms of buns.

Another user on Twitter said, “This is insane.”

From my menu.
Burger King Austria released a new Pride ad today showing their new Pride Whoppers, which come with same-sex buns for the first time ever. This is insane, IMO. pic.twitter.com/OKXLAzyen5
Others on Twitter criticized the bun idea entirely.
I was hoping the marketing clowns at @BurgerKing would, at the very least, show some effort and creativity and use the same rainbow mix that rainbow bagels use, but instead we get this circus. _ https://t.co/5x9fK7JNBg

And yet another person bashed Burger King for thinking it was a good idea to run with the promotion.
So…who’s gunna volunteer to tell Burger King’s marketing team that’s not how it works? https://t.co/FLFLONRgwK

But other Burger King fans wholeheartedly supported the idea saying they sided with the “King” as they now could have it their way.
As a bisexual person, I was always told that I can’t have it both ways and that I’d have to choose a side. That’s why this #Pride month I’m partnering with Burger King: where you can have it YOUR way and the only side you have to pick is the one for your flame broiled Whopper _

growing up as a bisexual woman in the south, i was really told to pick a side. being bisexual means you don’t have to pick a side, that’s why this pride month i’m so excited to announce that i’m partnering with burger king because i can have it my way

Last year for Pride Month, Burger King donated 40 cents from every purchase of its Ch’King up to $250,000 to the Human Rights Campaign – an LGBTQ advocacy group.
*6/3-6/30 with every Ch'King sold, BK will contribute 40₵ to the Human Rights Campaign (Max. donation $250k)
