Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg showed support Sunday for President Joe Biden's economic policies that tackle inflation and unemployment.

Buttigieg said on CBS News' "Face The Nation" that the Biden administration's "top economic priority is fighting inflation," and that this can be seen in the current below 4% unemployment numbers.

"Look, I don't think anybody could argue that, for example, our unemployment numbers are anything but strong as hell," Buttigieg said.

Buttigieg also defended the Biden administration's efforts to fight inflation by explaining how he believes they have prioritized steps that have allowed Americans to live off their income.

"They understand that inflation is a global phenomenon, but we're fighting it here at home with measures to take that pressure off of families," Buttigieg said.

"It's why we strongly believe that we should continue in the direction of prioritizing not tax loopholes for billionaires, not corporate profits, but allowing Americans to be able to get by with the income that they're making," he added.

Buttigieg believes Republicans do not see value in what the Biden administration has accomplished. He noted that Republicans voted against the $35 insulin cap, among other measures that would have helped low-income Americans.
