Caitlyn Frisina Update: Missing Teen And Soccer Coach Possibly Heading North
A teenage girl from Florida believed have run off with a high school soccer coach may be headed to the Northeast, according to authorities. Caitlyn Frisina, 17, may be with Rian Rodriguez, a 27-year-old boys’ soccer coach. Frisina was spotted on surveillance in Georgia and South Carolina, police said.
The pair was last seen Sunday at a pawn shop in Fayetteville, North Carolina. They were previously seen at gas stations in South Carolina and Georgia, surveillance photos revealed. Caitlyn also appeared to have taken $200 from an ATM in Georgia Sunday. Frisina has family in New York, while Rodriguez was believed to have family in Canada and Pennsylvania, public information officer Murray Smith told ABC News.
Rodriguez was the head coach of the boys’ soccer team at Fort White High School in Columbia County, Florida, where Frisina went to school. He was fired Tuesday for “failure to report to work.” The school said it was cooperating with the investigation into Frisina’s disappearance.
Frisina’s parents pleaded with their daughter Wednesday to contact her family and let them know she was safe.
“If you see this pumpkin, we just want you to know that we love you and we miss you and we need to know that you’re safe,” Scarlet Frisina said at a press conference Wednesday, according to WJXT-TV. “We need to know that you’re okay. Call somebody. Let somebody know. We love you and we miss you, and we’re waiting here with open arms.”
Frisina’s father also posted a photo of her on Twitter Monday imploring her to return.
“I do not care about anything except hearing your voice,” he wrote. “There is absolutely nothing that you could have done or be involved in that stops my love for you. You are my only concern. I will come to you no matter the time or place! I love you!”
Frisina, who is still legally a minor, was last seen Saturday at her home. Investigators said they believed the girl left her house by way of her bedroom window in the middle of the night. She left her cell phone behind, wiped clean. A friend told authorities Caitlyn sent her a text message indicating she may have had a relationship with Rodriguez. Authorities also said they learned of a “blossoming” relationship between the pair. Her family, however, said they had no indication of such a relationship, while her current boyfriend said the situation between he and Frisina was fine.
“I believe that we’re going to have some citizens who are going to give us a tip that is going to lead to the recovery of her,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said.
Frisina was listed as 5’7” and 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Authorities urged the public to be on the lookout for a Mercury Sable with Florida license plates with the tag Z04CSC. Anyone with information was asked to call 386-719-2005 or 911.
