Former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant returned to his winning ways after scoring a brutal knockout win over Anthony Dirrell in the ninth round last Saturday, October 15.
After failing to land big punches in the early goings of the fight held at the Barclays Center, Plant landed a perfectly-timed left hook to the body and then followed it up with a left to the chin that sent Dirrel sprawling.
"The Dog" was left motionless on the canvass, considered one of the most brutal finishes of 2022.
Moreover, Plant had not forgotten about the barbs that the Michigan native sent his way, seen as the reason for the 30-year-old's mocking that followed not long after.
"Sweethands" performed a digging celebration, implying that he was burying his opponent.
The referee ran over to stop the mocking actions of Plant and his gestue left most divided despite the obvious bad blood between the two fighters.
"Caleb Plant frustrated with the histrionics throughout...but you don't want that," a commentator could be heard saying upon seeing Plant's actions.
For others, the actions of the former champion against his fallen foe were very disrespectful, particularly because Dirrell was already lying hurt and motionless on the floor.
However, others looked back at the animosity that both Plant and Dirrell had for each other.
This included the 38-year-old wearing a t-shirt during press conferences inferring that he wanted to bury Plant.
In the post-fight press conference, Plant responded when asked about his "digging" celebration.
Plant stated that he was "just burying the beef" between them.
With his vicious KO win over Dirrell, Plant is likely to move on and face either Jermall Charlo or David Benavidez.
However, Plant stressed that he would fight any opponent as he tries to work his way back into a possible rematch with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
"I'm ready for whatever comes next," he mentioned. "I'm going to spend some time with my family, but then I'm ready for the biggest fights that we can make."
