A California federal prosecutor shot himself and his wife of four months in a murder-suicide.

Timothy Delgado, 43, a California state prosecutor in the Sacramento U.S. Attorney's Office working gun and drug cases, was found dead with his wife, Tamara Delgado, 45, after Tamara's parents asked deputies to conduct a welfare check at their Granite Bay residence on Sunday, Fox News reported.

"We believe that Mr. Delgado fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself," the Placer County Sheriff's Office said.

CBS 13 Sacramento reported that the U.S. Attorney's Office acknowledged the incident.

Tamara Delgado married Timothy four months ago and a friend told the station that Tamara was a "loving mother to a daughter and a young son".

Timothy Delgado was also a lawyer in the Navy.
