Chino Hills, California, -- A 59-year-old California man has been arrested for allegedly torturing and raping a woman who was held captive at his home for months.

The suspect, identified as Peter Anthony McGuire, faces multiple charges of kidnapping, rape, sodomy, torture and false imprisonment for abusing a 22-year-old unidentified woman who was held against her will at his home in Chino Hills, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said, reported NY Post.

The investigation began after the victim, who managed to flee from the captivity, was spotted by bystanders at a nearby park on June 9. The woman told cops that McGuire started abusing her soon after she moved into his residence and did not allow her to leave the house for the next five months.

The victim is in stable condition now, police said.

"Very soon after moving into the house she was not allowed to leave, she was held there against her will by him and at that point was subjected to multiple assaults," said Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, ABC 7 reported.

Police issued an arrest warrant for McGuire and gathered evidence supporting the victim's statement from his residence.

The suspect, who fled the scene, was taken into custody from a house in the neighboring Orange County after an hours-long standoff with SWAT officers Sunday morning.

According to the criminal complaint, McGuire brutally abused the victim, disfiguring her face, dismembering her eye and cutting out her tongue.

"The victim had visible injuries consistent with the allegations made," the sheriff's department said, ABC News reported.

McGuire pleaded not guilty to 10 charges at his arraignment in San Bernardino court Monday. Five of the counts are for crimes involving the infliction of great bodily injury and administering a controlled substance during a sex crime, prosecutors said. According to the court records, McGuire is being held on a no-bail hold.
