California Woman Arrested for Trying to Cut Off Husband's Genitalia
A 65-year-old California woman was arrested for trying to cut off her husband's penis with a pair of large scissors, police said Sunday.
According to the Palm Springs police, Virginia Valdez was arrested on suspicion of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and spousal abuse on Saturday, and was released Sunday on a $100,000 bond. She faces a court hearing next month.
The husband was treated for a non-life-threatening wound in the genital area and released from a local hospital, police said. The police did not release his name.
''Officers made contact with the 62-year-old male victim, who reported that his wife had attempted to sever his penis with scissors, resulting in injuries to the area. The victim received medical attention for treatment of a non-life threatening wound and has subsequently been released from the hospital,'' the Herald Sun quoted Police Sgt. Melissa Desmarais as saying.
Police Sgt. Kyle Stjerne, who spoke to the Los Angeles Times, said the couple had been married for 32 years and the cause of Saturday's fight at their home in the 1700 block of Rochelle Road remains under investigation. It was just a long-standing marital dispute, and we are not sure what caused her to do it, he said.
