After a night of heavy drinking, two men accidentally shot a cannonball into a mobile home, killing one's 33-year-old wife, while his 4-year-old child was sleeping early Tuesday morning.

Homicide detectives from Portero, Calif. said they were investigating how the cannon could have accidently gone off, sending the cannonball straight into the couple's motor home.

Detectives said that another man, along with the unidentified woman's husband, was tinkering with the cannon in the tiny community near the Mexican border, reported the Daily News. The Portero police department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection are investigating the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead approximately 12:15 a.m. at her home. One of them men who allegedly fired the cannon was injured and taken to a local hospital.
