KEY POINTS
- The next "Call of Duty" game installment will reportedly release in 2024
- The game will be handled by Treyarch, rumors claim
- "Call of Duty 2024" is reportedly in its early stage of development
The first set of images purportedly belonging to "Call of Duty 2024" has been uncovered by dataminers and it reveals a gun, maps and a futuristic setting of the unannounced game installment from Activision.
"Call of Duty" data miner RealityUK shared a few images of Treyarch's "Call of Duty 2024" when they gained access to the close alpha of Warzone Mobile Project Aurora. Some of the images featured a couple of maps, which seemed like concept art since the game is most likely in its early stage of development.
The jet in the image resembles the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk, a retired American attack aircraft introduced in October 1983. This suggests that the game takes place in the '80s or '90s, but it is also likely that developers just borrowed the stealth aircraft's design and used it for a game with a futuristic setting.
The first image shows the "Stealth" map, which appears to be the map's codename. The picture highlights that the place is most likely a U.S. military base. With futuristic stealth fighters, aligning earlier rumors that the game will be semi-futuristic.
The other image, dubbed "Pillage," is another location, but unlike "Stealth," only a few aspects of the map are visible. The data miner also uncovered a gun, which could be featured in "Call of Duty 2024."
The gun is concealed under the codename t10_sn_p01_sroger25_mp, which fans speculate could be a semi-automatic sniper rifle or an SR-25 Sniper. Both guns were released in the early part of the 1990s.
Activision, the game publisher of the highly successful "Call of Duty" franchise, has not yet confirmed a new "CoD" game releasing in 2024. However, Bloomberg reported that Treyarch's next game will roll out in 2024, which means 2023 is an off-year for a major franchise title iteration.
Infinity Ward announced "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II," which will be released in October 2022. The game features Task Force 141 and its quest to combat a new terror threat.
It is worth noting that the leaked images, although datamined from a "Call of Duty" title, are not yet final images. Treyarch can still change these maps, especially since the game is in its early stage of development.
