‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 2' Multiplayer: 5 Things We Learned; Leaked Zombie Image Allegedly Deemed Fake [TRAILER]
Fans of the "Call of Duty" franchise got a glimpse of what's to come in the coming "Black Ops 2" multiplayer mode at Gamescom 2012. The highly anticipated military shooter will take place in 2025 in a post-apocalyptic, war-torn Los Angeles.
The trailer for "Black Ops 2" multiplayer debuted earlier in August, revealing some new insight as to what players can expect when the game hits shelves. Players were able to see a lot of the technology and gadgets they will get to mess around with in combat, including the quadrotor drones seen in previous trailers.
At Gamescom 2012, however, fans were able to see actual gameplay for the first time that will be featured in the multiplayer mode. Here are five key takeaways from the "Black Ops 2" multiplayer mode unveiled on Wednesday.
1. Public Rules Come To Multiplayer Mode. There were no limitations on kill streaks, attachments or guns in the "Black Ops 2" multiplayer revealed so far. Every aspect is played in the way that it is intended to be played, which was something the "Call of Duty" franchise had struggled with in the past. This will give it more of an edge when competing with other widely perceived shooter franchise's such as "Halo."
2. Domination Gets Round-Based System. Domination was played on the "Aftermath" map during the demo, and the new round-based system was unveiled. David Vonderhaar had mentioned this during commentary, and the round-based system allows players to flip-sides on the match to even the playing field on map balance.
3. The "Death Machine" Is Back. This mini-gun is making its return from the original "Black Ops" released in 2010. It can be obtained from Care Packages in multiplayer, and was also available as a power-up in certain Nazi Zombie maps. If Treyarch ever reveals any more information on the Zombie Mode for "Black Ops 2" perhaps it will be the same scenario.
4. "Hard Point" Game Mode Revealed. This mode is similar to "Headquarters" from the original "Black Ops" game, and players get one point per second for holding the objective. Fans got to see "Hard Point" in action on the "Cargo" map. One noteworthy feature in "Hard Point" gameplay is the elusive Ghost perk, which requires players to keep moving to stay off the UAV.
5. "Shoutcasting." The new eSports approach taken by Treyarch was apparent in the multiplayer mode trailer, and now fans got to see even more of that in the gameplay demo. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" will feature in-game live streaming and shoutcasting for all players. Two people can act as live color commentators during a multiplayer match, with the option of shoutcasting during a live match or adding commentary to a match afterward.
Fans are still eagerly waiting for more information on the game's Zombie Mode, which Treyarch has been pretty tight-lipped about thus far. In May a leak surfaced in the official "Call of Duty" forums that claimed to be a screenshot from the "Black Ops 2" Zombie Mode. There was no confirmation of this from any official source, but the image still remains on the website. Typically, when leaked images surface they are quickly taken down upon discovery.
On Aug. 8, a user responded to the post, saying that the allegedly leaked Zombie image is "confirmed to be fake." The user said that the account holder who uploaded the picture is known for creating fake images, and had used Photoshop to add weapons from MMO "Dust 514."
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" will be released on Nov. 13, just in time for the holiday season. Treyarch has already revealed a plethora of information on "Black Ops 2," and hopefully players will hear more about the Zombie mode soon.
