- The temporary halt in their live events came in the wake of the pandemic caused by COVID-19
Following a temporary hiatus on their tournaments due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the “Call of Duty League” is set to make a return this Friday.
In their recent blog, the League announced that they resume in gathering some of the best “Call of Duty” players from around the world in an online competition and broadcast production format on Friday, April 10.
This came after the esports community saw the rise of top-level competitions cancelling their scheduled matches to promote a global initiative to stay indoors to prevent the spread of the deadly illness.
The Dallas Home Series Weekend will be streamed live on their YouTube channel and will feature eight of the premiere “Call of Duty” teams: the Chicago Hunstmen, Dallas Empire, Los Angeles Guirrellas, Florida Mutineers, Paris Legion, Minnesota Rokkr, Seattle Surge and Toronto Ultra.
The League's new online-only format will have its players, team staff and personnel “compete and work” from the safety of its desired locations while at the same time, abiding with the guidelines set by the government and health officials.
Team-hosted “Call of Duty Challengers” will also be online and will go in conjunction with the teams' Home Series weekend. It will feature tournaments in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region and should target “path to pro” players.
“No one wants to be in this situation, but we are, and we're thankful that Call of Duty League can forge ahead and deliver live competition to fans when it's probably needed most,” said Engadget, citing a statement from commissioner Johanna Faries.
