Activision, the video game publisher of the "Call of Duty" franchise, announced the "Call of Duty Next" showcase recently to reveal the series' future. But, ahead of the event, a new claim surfaced online revealing that the shooter title will get a major makeover, which includes a change in its name.
The latest set of information about "Call of Duty; Warzone" came from industry insider Tom Henderson, who has been providing a constant stream of accurate leaks about the video game industry over the years.
In his latest expose, Henderson said "Call of Duty: Warzone" will be renamed and will still receive updates and DLC despite the launch of "Call of Duty: Warzone 2."
"It looks like original Warzone will continue to receive updates/DLC," Henderson said in a tweet. "Warzone will be renamed to "Warzone Caldera" on November 28th," the insider added.
"Call of Duty: Warzone" was rolled out in 2020, and with its sequel, "Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0," reportedly releasing on November 16, according to earlier leaks, it looks like the attention would shift to the new title. Despite this, Henderson's information, if proven accurate, means that Activision would not abandon the original "Warzone" title and instead continue to provide support.
More details about the original "Call of Duty: Warzone" game will most likely come to light on Thursday at the "Call of Duty Next" event. The showcase is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET and will be available on Twitch and other social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
The event, according to the press release, will center on "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," the sequel of the 2019's hit game "Modern Warfare," on "Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0" and the new "Warzone" mobile title. "This is an era-defining franchise event showcasing the immediate future of Call of Duty, broadcast on September 15, 2022. Presented by Infinity Ward, and featuring robust information drops detailing innovations, live gameplay, and a whole lot more," Activision described the event.
It is worth noting that while Henderson has provided accurate leaks in the past, the leaked details about "Call of Duty: Warzone" is not yet official. Gamers should take this latest set of information as highly speculative at this stage.
