At least 21 people have been involved in a crash that happened in Cambridgeshire between two vehicles.

The collision between the Minibus and the car happened on the B1040 Somersham Road near Woodhurst and Bluntisham at 4.51 p.m.

Twenty firefighters are currently at the scene according to the fire service, and a police cordon has also been set.

A spokesperson for the Ambulance Services claimed the casualties are being taken to hospitals in both Cambridge and Huntingdon.

The service also confirmed that one person died despite their best efforts to assist.

Six people were taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital while 14 were taken to Addenbrooke Hospital.

A spokesman for the Cambridgeshire Constabulary stated the victims had different levels of injury.

Currently, roads in both directions near Wheatsheaf Road have been closed, and diversions have been set in Pidley.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance and a quick response medical team are also on standby following the accident. The Magpas Air Ambulance, eight ambulance officers, and a rapid response vehicle, as well as ten ambulances, have also been deployed to the assist.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident or who witnessed it to contact the road policing unit on 101 or visit the designated online site.

It is not the first time an incident has occurred at the same place this year. In September, the East of England Ambulance crews and a rapid response vehicle from Magpas were called to the crossroads where the B1040 meets Wheatsheaf and Bluntisham Heath Road amid reports of a collision concerning two cars.

A spokesman for the ambulance charity Magpas claimed the medical team evaluated two patients at the scene. One of them was a man in his 30s who did not have any life-threatening injuries, and he was given to the ambulance service paramedic crew.

The second patient was in his 40s and had sustained a lot of injuries. The air service team gave him pain relief at the scene before taking him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Fortunately, the patient arrived in a stable condition at the hospital.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service claimed they had sent two ambulances an ambulance officer and the air ambulance to assist.

One patient was taken to Addenbrooke Hospital while the other was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The scene could be ruled as accident-prone if other incidents continue to happen at the locality.
