Camila Cabello Admits She Has More Self Confidence Since Leaving Fifth Harmony
Since leaving Fifth Harmony in December, Camila Cabello has been able to gain a better understanding of who she is. In the process of becoming a solo artist, the “Crying in the Club” singer revealed that she has found a brand new sense of confidence since quitting the successful girl group.
During an interview with E! News, Cabello admitted that being on her own after spending years in a group has changed her. “I think this whole journey has made me more comfortable in my own skin, literally and metaphorically,” she explained.
The “Havana” singer revealed that she feels like she has the freedom to do what she wants. “I like to wear less makeup when I can because I have gotten more comfortable with myself...I feel like now I have more room to grow in my personal style too.”
Prior to her recent interview, the 20-year-old told People that she was relieved that she no longer had to create her looks based off of what her group members were wearing. “As a solo artist, I don’t have to worry about matching a group look, which can be quite challenging because you have to fit with everyone else,” she told the publication.
“I think my style has evolved because I’ve evolved as a person,” she added.
With her newfound fashion freedom, Cabello no longer has to follow the rules, and now has the option of wearing whatever she wants. “I’m always growing and recreating myself, and because style is an expression of how you feel, my style has changed like I have,” she said.
Nowadays, the star admits that she likes to keep her look relatively simple. “Sometimes on days off, I will literally just wear pajamas and put my hair in a bun, and if I’m going for a walk, I’ll just throw on some hoops,” she told E! News.
However, there are times where she prefers a more put together look. “Or, sometimes if I’m going out with friends I’ll put my hair in a side braid and put mascara on, and wear sneakers. Sometimes if I’m going somewhere fancy or on stage, I’ll wear heels and curl my hair! It all depends on the context, but I like to keep it really simple and natural so I can feel like myself whether I’m glammed or not!”
In the past, Cabello has confessed that her transition to becoming a solo artist hasn’t been an easy task. During an interview with SoundExchange, the “OMG” artist admitted that she was pretty terrified to perform without her group. However, her stage fright didn’t last too long, and she was eventually able to confidently command the stage.
“At first, it was really nerve-racking. But like anything, the more you do it, the more comfortable you become, and the more you learn how to improve,” she revealed.
“It helps to remember that everybody in the room ultimately just wants to have fun and have a good time. So, I interact with the crowd and make them feel good. Performing solo was once intimidating. But I’ve learned a lot and now I feel very relaxed on stage,” the star explained.
Since leaving Fifth Harmony, Cabello has been working on releasing her debut album and has landed campaigns with Guess, L’Oréal Paris and more brands.
Cabello’s solo album, “The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving,” is expected to hit shelves soon.
