She may be more widely accepted as Prince Charles’ wife these days, but that doesn’t mean the British people are willing to accept Camilla Parker Bowles as the future Queen Consort, as a new poll shows that many do not want her to take the title when her husband eventually ascends to the throne.

The new poll, conducted by Express UK, showed that 73 percent of their readers who took the poll said that they don’t feel the Duchess of Cornwall should be given the prestigious title that is given to royal spouses when their significant other takes the throne. This result comes in spite of the pair being married since 2005. Among comments on the poll, it was also expressed that the respondents didn’t feel they would eve accept her in the role and that it could be the very thing that leads to the people trying to abolish the monarchy as a whole.

“If Charlie makes her queen then that will be the end of the monarchy,” one wrote, while another added, “King Charlie and Queen Camilla, the perfect reason to become a republic.”

The results of the new poll come after royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams previously told the publication that the Duchess would likely have a rocky start in her new role after her husband takes the throne because of way she may still be seen by some because of her role in the breakdown of Prince Charles’ first marriage to Princess Diana, who was beloved by the public and is still widely regarded as the People’s Princess more than 20 years after her death.

“The question of Camilla as Queen Consort, regarded now as a virtual certainty when Charles ascends to the throne, is never likely to be popular in the polls,” he said at the time. “It is universally acknowledged however that they are inseparable and perfect for each other. The Prince has done a phenomenal amount for charity and it is, to put it mildly, uncharitable not to accept the love of his life.”

The final decision on her title will come down to her husband after he takes the throne following his mother’s death. However, when that day will come remains to be seen, as there have been conflicting reports on whether the Queen would step down or rule until her death. While she previously was believed to want to wait until her own passing, there have been rumors recently that she is eyeing stepping back in two years, after reaching her 95th birthday. However, that wouldn’t be an official relinquishing of her title, as its believed she would utilize the Regency Act in that case, meaning she would still be the Queen, while her son took on more responsibilities.
