Camilla Parker Bowles will be queen after Queen Elizabeth II’s death, according to a royal expert.
Clarence House made it clear that the Duchess of Cornwall will not be queen when Prince Charles takes over the throne. The palace made the first announcement when the Prince of Wales and the duchess got married by saying that Camilla would only be known as princess consort.
The palace repeated the same announcement by saying that “there has been absolutely no change at all” about Camilla’s future title. However, Charlie Proctor, editor of Royal Central, insisted that it was not true and Price Charles’ wife will be the next queen when Her Majesty dies.
“Despite the denial, legally Camilla will become Queen Consort upon HM’s death,” Proctor said.
“The process of trying to change the legal title of the wife of a king would be a constitutional mess. It would be surprising if the situation wasn’t at least reconsidered.”
Proctor wasn’t the only expert who is convinced that Camilla will be queen one day. James Brooke also said that despite the palace’s announcement during their wedding, Camilla is set to be Prince Charles’ queen.
“Camilla will become Queen, there is no choice to make,” Brooke said.
“Despite the public opinion started to change over the years, many are still very skeptical about Camilla, lot of people are antagonistic towards her and that's mainly down to the relationship and previous history with Diana. But while her becoming Queen could enrage some, a change in the constitution just for Camilla may get even more people very upset.”
Lord Norton of Louth also shared the same opinion. According to the peer in the House of Lords and professor of the University of Hull, the law supports Camilla. He explained that the king’s wife will become the Queen Consort and in this case, Camilla is Prince Charles’ spouse, so she is entitled of the said position.
In related news, Camilla couldn’t reportedly get out of bed during her wedding day with Prince Charles. The duchess was under the weather in the run up of her big day. However, her condition when her wedding day arrived was not due to her sinusitis but more on her nerves.
