Conservative political commentator Candace Owens is facing backlash on Twitter after the Russian Embassy retweeted her post in which she changed the Black Lives Matter phrase to “Russian lives matter.”

Owens initially shared the post on Wednesday, which was later retweeted by the U.S. sector of the Russian Embassy. The post is generating angry reactions on social media.

“Absolutely appalling the way Russians are being treated in America and abroad. That our leaders and government institutions are allowing for—and at times calling for this discrimination following their global ‘black lives matter’ hysteria is quite telling. Russian lives matter,” Owens wrote.

By Monday, Owens’ name became a trending topic on Twitter, with people slamming her for supporting Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Candace Owens: retweeted by the enemies of democracy. She’s more concerned about discrimination against Russians than Ukrainian civilians being slaughtered. So many conservative traitors in our country. #StandWithUkraine,” one person wrote.

Another person suggested Owens used the “Russian lives matter” phrase without having a full understanding of the Black Lives Matter movement.

“We ask for justice against bad people, example Dirty Cops who murder civilians. Never have we asked for ethnic ‘cleansing’ or ‘genocide.’ But stupid people, like Candace Owens, like to tweet things to sound witty. You have to wonder how much Russian money funds the GOP,” the individual wrote.

This isn’t the first time the Russian Embassy has caused a stir on Twitter. Last week, the London sector of the embassy shared tweets about the Mariupol hospital bombing. The posts claimed the facility was no longer operational and that photos depicting the attack were fake.

Twitter later removed the tweets “as they were in violation of the Twitter Rules, specifically our Hateful Conduct and Abusive Behavior policies related to the denial of violent events,” according to a spokesperson for the company.
