Mexican boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was spotted training with his possible successor and is reportedly planning to fight Gennady Golovkin in September.
Without a doubt, Canelo has already placed his name as one of the best fighters in the world today. After managing to stay undefeated for 5 consecutive years, Canelo is now at the peak of his career.
But despite already establishing his name in boxing, the redhead champ is still working on improving his game. In a recent video footage uploaded by Little Giant Boxing, Canelo can be seen intensely training and working on his world-famous power shots.
Ryan Garcia, an undefeated boxing rising star could also be seen training with Canelo, whom he has repeatedly referred to as his mentor. Garcia evidently emulated Canelo’s training routines and was also seen mimicking the Mexican brawler’s combinations.
While Canelo continues to better his game, his next opponent is yet to be announced. However, promoter Eddie Hearn, who has been actively working with Canelo lately, revealed that the four-division champ is eyeing to get back in the ring on “Cinco de Mayo.”
More importantly, Hearn hinted at the possibility of the much awaited third fight between Canelo and his middleweight nemesis Golovkin, Boxing News 24 reported.
“They’re big fights, and big paydays, but obviously, Canelo wants to fight on Cinco de Mayo,” Hearn revealed.
“It’s now December, and it’ll be January soon. They’ve got to make their move. I think there’s a clear strategy for Canelo to fight Golovkin in September, and I really believe [it]. And I just feel like you’re going to see that fight in 2020,” Hearn added.
Aside from being consistently linked to Golovkin, Canelo is also being targeted by UFC star Jorge Masvidal for a crossover fight. Canelo once addressed the Masvidal issue and stated that he has “no business with MMA.” However, he recently told TMZ Sports that he would be open to fight Masvidal for business.
Garcia on the other hand, will soon return as he hopes to follow up his spectacular first-round knockout of Romero Duno in November .
The 21-year-old Garcia, who has a flawless record of 19-0 is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to fight Francisco Fonseca on Feb. 14, 2020 at the Honda Center in Anaheim as the main event on DAZN .
Just like his mentor Canelo, Garcia is also being linked to multiple names in boxing. In one of his recent social media post, the lightweight sensation suggested that he would also like to face Devin Haney and Gervonta “Tank” Davis soon.
