The highly anticipated Canelo vs. GGG 3 may happen in 2020.

Middleweight boxing star Gennady Golovkin would finally get another shot at his nemesis and former IBF middleweight champ Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Oscar De La Hoya just confirmed Saturday that the Canelo will be facing Golovkin in 2020. According to De La Hoya, Golovkin has to fight Canelo not only because he deserves it but also because the fans really want to see it happen for the third time.

"Well, he (Golovkin) will be one of the opponents for next year," De La Hoya told DAZN's Chris Mannix during Saturday's broadcast of the Jaime Munguia-Patrick Allotey card.

"He has to be. Obviously, the people want to see it. The world wants to see it, and Golovkin deserves it," De La Hoya emphasized.

It seems like De La Hoya knows how to keep his word about the possible rubbermatch between the two middleweight boxing stars. Last June, De La Hoya was firm when he said that they will make Golovkin wait for Canelo’s decision regarding the talked-about third fight.

"We'll make him wait. We'll see. He's the B fighter now. Canelo's the A fighter,” De La Hoya explained.

And now that Canelo is already booked for a superfight with Sergey Kovalev in November, It appears that De La Hoya really made “GGG” wait.

However, Golovkin happened to be the type of fighter that doesn’t like waiting. A few weeks ago, Golovkin went straight-forward with the reporters when asked about fighting Canelo again.

As per Golovkin, he grew tired of waiting for Canelo and would rather talk about space satellites than the Mexican star.

"I really don't think about this subject (Canelo) at all. Let's talk about space or something else. I really know more about satellites and space than about Canelo," Golovkin exclaimed.

Next month, Golovkin himself is set to face Sergiy Derevyanchenko and according to his plans, he would like to fight Japanese boxer Ryota Murata next.

“One-hundred percent. Absolutely, I am open for this. And of course, we already made a first step with a world championship fight [with Derevyanchenko]. And absolutely, I’m looking forward [to fighting Murata],” Golovkin said.

Aside from Canelo vs. Golovkin 3, De La Hoya is also planning to book Jaime Munguia vs. Canelo next year.

“Jaime Munguia is young and he has a long way to go in this sport and I think a Canelo-Jaime Munguia fight would be excellent all over the world," De La Hoya said.
