Canelo Alvarez's Successor Open To Fighting Vasyl Lomachenko
Canelo Alvarez’s successor said he wants the biggest fights possible and is open to facing off against Ukraine boxing superstar Vasyl Lomachenko.
Ryan Garcia is one of the most talented boxing rising stars in the world today. Ahead of his bout against NABO Lightweight Champion Romero Duno, Garcia tries to take every single pointer from his mentor Canelo.
Clearly, Garcia wants to be one of the best fighters in the world. And to be able to do that, he is aware that he has to beat the biggest names in boxing. In a recent talk with Elie Seckbach of EsNews, Garcia admitted that he is still a bit far from being the best. However, he vowed to fight all the biggest fights including Lomachenko as that is how the sport works.
In one of his recent Instagram post, Garcia boasted about “learning from the best” as he posted a photo of him and Canelo after a sparring session.
“Learning from the best @canelo !Showing me how to perfect my techniques _ Always looking out for me thank you champ,” Garcia wrote.
Canelo on his part, acknowledged Garcia’s progress and noted that he “likes” what the young boxer has been doing thus far, Boxing News 24 reported.
“Ryan is getting better. Real good. He’s been learning. I like him a lot. He’s real talented, and he likes to learn. I like that,” Canelo said about Garcia.
Garcia and Canelo’s relationship has been quite good. Last August, Garcia revealed the best advice Canelo gave him. According to Garcia, much has improved in him ever since he joined Canelo’s camp but the most important thing he learned from the Mexican star is to maintain a tremendous work ethic.
“Canelo: Keep that same work ethic that you have to get you where you at,” Garcia said.
With Canelo set to fight on under DAZN, it was only fitting several key matches were added. One of those includes rising prospect Garcia, as he looks to combine the vacant WBC Silver Lightweight Championship against Duno.
The 21-year-old boxing sensation recently signed a new fight deal with Golden Boy, securing his spot as the co-main event in Canelo vs. Kovalev fight. He has 15 wins via knockout, winning his last two via KO finishes. His most notable KO victory came in September 2017 when he knocked out Mexican featherweight Miguel Carrizoza in a mere 30 seconds.
Oscar De La Hoya is already pleased to have Garcia on the same card as Canelo and claimed that they will be putting together one of the best undercards of the year.
“We have put a lot of thought into this long-awaited night, and we’re eager to deliver one of the best undercards of the year,” De La Hoya said.
