Earlier Thursday, news broke that an NYPD officer named Gilberto Valle had been arrested for attempting to “kidnap women and cook them.” The so-called “Cannibal Cop” collaborated with an unknown conspirator online and assembled a database of women that the two planned to kill and eat.

Valle, 28, has been with the NYPD for eight years and was assigned to West Harlem and Morningside Heights in Manhattan. He has been charged with conspiracy to kidnap and accessing a computer without authorization. Valle is currently looking at a possible life sentence.

After the news broke, Gothamist was quick to discover Valle’s profile on the online dating service OKCupid, which he seemed to maintain throughout his marriage and the birth of his daughter.

It is unknown if Valle used his online dating profile to meet and screen potential victims, but given some of the disturbing content on the OKCupid page, it seems at least somewhat likely.

While Valle is now accused of “discussing plans to kidnap, rape, torture, kill, cook and eat body parts of a number of women,” it seems he saw himself much differently than the rest of the world. Valle wrote on his profile that "I also consider myself a true gentleman, and chivalry is huge with me (yes, I will open doors and pull out chairs for you)."

One of the most disturbing aspects of Valle’s OKCupid profile comes when he brings up Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham,” of all things. Valle refers to it as his favorite book and describes the plot of the children’s story in a way that seems innocent until put in the disturbing light of the charges leveled against him.

“It was written by this famous Doctor,” Valle wrote. “It's about a guy named Sam who makes this new breakfast and tries to get his neighbor to try it. After many failed attempts, the neighbor finally eats it and to his surprise he really likes it. The Doctor's message in his literary work is that it is good to try new things. I try and employ it in my everyday life.”

At a different point in his online dating profile, he lists his favorite foods as "Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese,” adding that “I'll try anything and am not picky at all."

These quotes would seem benign when written by the average online dating user, but when they come from Valle, who also wrote “I was thinking of tying her body onto some kind of apparatus&cook her over a low heat, keep her alive as long as possible,” to an online co-conspirator, they certainly take on a much darker meaning.
