An amateur surgeon has been sentenced to more than 12 years behind bars for performing an illegal castration surgery on a volunteer at a cabin in Oklahoma last year and then keeping the removed body parts in a freezer.
Bob Lee Allen, 54, was sentenced to two years in jail and 10 years and one month in prison after pleading no contest to five counts, The Oklahoman reported. He was given credit for time served.
Allen and his 42-year-old husband, Thomas Evans Gates III, were charged last year for castrating the victim, a then-willing 28-year-old, at their cabin in the woods near Wister in October 2020. The victim had flown from Virginia after meeting Allen on the now-defunct castration forum Eunuch Maker, a report by Vice said.
The victim told investigators that he was driven to the cabin, where Allen performed the castration on a covered makeshift table using only local anesthetic, according to a court affidavit obtained by The Oklahoman. The victim was awake for the two-hour surgery.
Allen claimed that he had 15 years of experience performing gender reassignment surgeries and "had six more clients on the way to have the same operation," the victim said.
Following the procedure, Allen "said that he was going to consume the parts and laughed and said that he was a cannibal," according to the affidavit. The 54-year-old man has denied this claim.
Allen and his husband were caught because the surgery was botched. A day following the castration, Allen took the victim to the hospital for bleeding.
The couple was arrested days after the surgery when they tried to visit the victim at the hospital.
Investigators found a plastic bag "with what appeared to be testicles" in a deep freeze in a bedroom in the couple's cabin.
Allen pleaded no contest on Aug. 31 to three felonies: conspiracy to commit unlicensed surgery, practicing medicine without a license and attempted distribution of a psychedelic mushroom.
Additionally, Allen pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor drug counts, one of which was for not disposing of the removed testicles.
Prosecutors dropped a felony maiming count and two misdemeanor counts in exchange for Allen's plea. He would have faced up to life in prison if convicted of maiming.
Gates, who helped Allen by handing over surgical equipment during the operation, pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors on Aug. 4 after prosecutors agreed to dismiss three felony counts in exchange for his testimony against his husband.
Gates was released Tuesday after being sentenced to time served in jail. He owes more than $2,000 in fines and costs.
