Canon Confirms Development Of EOS R3 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera
KEY POINTS
- The camera will be ideal for sports photography
- It can go up to 30 frames per second with an electronic shutter
- The EOS R3 is set to challenge Sony and Nikon
Canon confirmed the development of the EOS R3, a full-frame mirrorless camera, on Wednesday.
Although the company did not give out any specific release date or price yet, it was confirmed the camera will come to the high-end bracket. Canon Global reported the company announced the camera will feature a 35 mm full-frame, and will be mirrorless. The EOS R3 will also come with a stacked CMOS sensor resulting in a high-speed readout and a DIGIC X image processor for high-speed image processing.
The EOS R3 is Canon's effort to come up or go beyond the current pro mirrorless camera competition with Nikon Z9 and Sony A1. Nikon introduced the Z9 in March, its highest-end mirrorless camera to date, The Verge reported.
The EOS R3 can go up to 30 frames per second with an electronic shutter that provides AF/AE tracking experience. The camera uses an algorithm for deep learning technology that provides better head and eye detection.
Reports added the camera will be ideal for capturing moments with quick-moving subjects such as in sports photography, as it is capable of detecting the human subject torso.
EOS R3 will be the first model to come with an eye control function for quick focus during multiple subject transitions. The AF frame will automatically adjust based on the movement detected from the users’ eyes, Canon Global reported.
The R3 comes with an almost similar design as Canon’s highest-end pro DSLR, the EOS-1D X Mark III. It will boast high-level dust and water resistance, a feature consistent with the whole EOS 1 lineup.
Canon added an integrated vertical handgrip on its physical feature for portrait and landscape shooting. It aims to provide professional-level quality for stills as well as moving subjects.
The latest addition to the EOS family is set to follow the concepts of high speed, high reliability and high sensitivity. Canon claims the upcoming camera will cater to the needs of both professional users and photo enthusiasts, Canon Global reported.
R3 is expected to go higher than the current Canon R5 position, which is currently the company's flagship mirrorless camera.
