A Texas man charged with attacking the Capitol and threatening to “assassinate” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York on Monday blamed Donald Trump for encouraging his supporters to storm the Congress on Jan. 6.

Dallas County resident Garret Miller, 34, said he was only following Trump’s orders when he and a huge mob of Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol earlier this month. Miller said he would be willing to testify about the riot breach that led to the death of five people.

“I was in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021, because I believed I was following the instructions of former President Trump and he was my president and the commander-in-chief. His statements also had me believing the election was stolen from him,” Miller said.

Miller also issued an apology after he wrote “Assassinate AOC” in a Twitter post.

“I want to publicly apologize to Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and the Capitol police officers. I have always supported law enforcement and I am ashamed by my comments,” he added.

Miller was arrested on Jan. 20 after spending weeks bragging on social media about his actions at the violent riot. In one of his posts, he shared a video from inside the Capitol building with the caption, “from inside Congress.”

Investigators outlined multiple posts shared across various social media platforms, including threats directed at a Capitol Police officer who fatally shot 35-year-old Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt during the riot. His Twitter account has since been suspended.

"We acted with honor and we where not armed. We where [sic] gentle with the police. They murdered a child. We going to get a hold of [the USCP officer] and hug his neck with a nice rope,” Miller wrote.

“Well we got the traitor cop as a target and as long as we don’t shoot him we don’t get accused of firing the first shot. He shot first. His death prevents civil war by liberal history teller arguments,” another post read.

Authorities charged Miller with unlawful entry of restricted buildings or grounds, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. He also will be charged with obstruction or impeding any official proceedings, civil disorder and making threats, according to court documents.
