Cardi B, the artist behind “Bodak Yellow,” has an estimated net worth of $24 million. Here’s how she built her fortune.
Cardi B, named Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar in real life, is a rapper who won numerous awards and fans because of her catchy music and addictive beats. She started her career as a reality TV star, appearing on “Love & Hip Hop: New York," but after just two seasons, Cardi B announced she would leave the show to pursue her music dreams, per Celebrity Net Worth.
She released several songs and slowly built her credentials along the way, collaborating with different artists at the same time. Her big break came after signing with Atlantic Records and releasing her second mixtape: "Gangsta B---h Music, Vol. 2." The 27-year-old earned nominations at the BET Awards at the time, and although she did not win anything, she captured the attention of music producers and fellow artists.
In 2017, “Bodak Yellow” was released and it catapulted Cardi B to stardom. It reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was quickly hailed as the “rap song of the summer.” The female rapper earned nominations at the Grammy Awards and finally won the Single of the Year award at the BET Awards 2017.
Cardi B was able to leverage her success to movies. She appeared in two movies, “Hustlers” and “F9.” She also lent her talents to a Netflix show with fellow rap superstars Chance the Rapper and T.I.
According to Fox Business, her “Invasion of Privacy” album in 2019 won Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards. The album also sold more than 3 million copies worldwide.
When not busy making albums, the Bronx, New York City native makes money via brand collaborations. It helps that she maintains a massive social media following with 75 million followers on Instagram. Cardi B represented Reebok, Balenciaga and Steve Madden in the past, among others.
On the personal side, she was previously married to Migos member Offset. The two share a child together named Kulture. Allegations of cheating by Offset apparently triggered Cardi B’s filing for divorce, a report from the BBC revealed. It is not known if the two had a prenuptial agreement, but the report claims that the “WAP” hitmaker is requesting custody over Kulture.
Like Britney Spears, Cardi B is supposed to hold shows at the Palms Casino Resort, but they were postponed due to the coronavirus.
