Carling Cup Round-Up - Manchester United, Arsenal Progress, Spurs Eliminated on Penalties

A weakened Manchester United proved too much for bitter-rivals Leeds United as the visitors secured a 3-0 victory at Elland Road in the Carling Cup third round.

Michael Owen scored a brace while Ryan Giggs also finished a fine solo effort with a goal.

Newcastle United won a thriller at Nottingham Forest, as the visitors saw their lead cancelled on three occasions before Fabricio Coloccini struck the winner in the final minute of extra-time to the Magpies a 4-3 win and a place in the fourth round.

Bolton Wanderers secured a much-needed win with a 2-0 triumph over Aston Villa at Villa Park while Blackburn Rovers made it a second win in as many games with a 3-2 triumph over Leyton Orient at Ewood Park.

Elsewhere, Wolves hammered Millwall 5-0 at Molineux, Crystal Palace held off Middlesbrough for a 2-1 win, Aldershot and Burnley won with the same scoreline against Rochdale and MK Dons respectively.
