KEY POINTS

  • A car plowed through the house, came out the other side and landed in a lake
  • Eight days later, another vehicle crashed into and came to a halt inside the house
  • The newly-purchased home was unoccupied on both instances

A house in New Jersey was struck by cars twice in two consecutive weekends, authorities said. An online fundraiser set up for the homeowners revealed they had just bought the house hours before the first vehicle plowed through.

Wanamassa Fire Company was dispatched to the Ocean Township home at around 2:40 a.m. after the first crash on Jan. 15. The driver involved had lost control of the car and left the roadway. After hitting a sign, the vehicle plunged through one side of the house and came out through the other before winding up in the Deal Lake, according to the New York Post.

Officials from the Asbury Park Fire Department provided assistance at the scene and had a rescue swimmer ready in case they needed to enter the water.

“Thankfully, all vehicle occupants were able to self extricate and only sustained minor injuries. The unoccupied house sustained extensive structural damage,” the fire company wrote on Facebook.

A GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds for homeowners Tim and Jenn Husar. The couple had closed the deal on the house just 10 hours before the crash took place, according to the fundraiser set up by a friend.

The following weekend on Jan. 23, Sunday, the very same house was struck once again by another car. Firefighters from the same company arrived at the spot around 4:50 a.m., and this time, they found the car had come to a halt inside the house. The newly bought home was still unoccupied, authorities said.

“Due to the location of the new damage, Asbury Park Fire Department was requested to investigate a possible structural issue,” Wanamassa Fire Company wrote on Facebook Sunday. “Thankfully, the home still has not been occupied.”

No injuries were reported from the second crash; however, the house is now left with extensive damage, according to NJ.com.

An update provided on the online fundraiser included pictures of the damaged house. “Like lightning striking twice in the same spot, somehow another driver hit the house this morning … Please help if you can!” the message said.

The fundraising page said the new homeowners would need help in offsetting the repair charges. So far, over $22,000 has been raised for the family out of the $25,000 goal.
