Casey Anthony Mask Sold For Nearly $1 Million on eBay

A Casey Anthony mask fetched nearly $1 million on eBay, revealing just how far people will go to profit from criminal case kitsch.

The mask, sold by "prophunter" of Los Angeles, was described as "a significant piece of crime history" and possibly the most frightening mask on the planet."

The seller, who ended up with a few of the masks after nine were made for a parody video, put one up on Sunday with a starting bid of $5. What ensued was a bidding frenzy greater than anyone could have imagined. The auction racked up 105 bids.

The result: the mask sold for $999,000.

Many criticized the mask as a tasteless, disturbing, and sick joke, though "prophunter" did note in the product description:

"Let's never forget poor Caylee."

The expressionless latex creation, with vacant pupils and a tight bun, offers a nuanced, yet eerie rendition of the notorious mom who, on July 5, was acquitted of charges that she murdered her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.
