Guillermo Del Toro is already prepping for his next film “Nightmare Alley” as he adds “Mindhunter” star Holt McCallany to the cast. The ever-growing roster for the new movie includes the likes of Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, and Rooney Mara.

According to Deadline, McCallany is the latest actor to be picked for the film, where he’ll be playing the role of Anderson. His character is described as “a get-the-job-done bruiser” who is more than meets the eye underneath his tough personality,

The movie is also an adaptation of the 1946 noir novel of the same title by William Lindsay Gresham, as well as a remake of the 1947 original. The story follows an ex-con turned spiritualist, who teams up with a female psychiatrist to scam the wealthy until things take a dark turn for them.

The original film had Tyrone Power as lead during a time when he was trying to branch out of his romantic and swashbuckler roles that audiences had known him for. The movie was adapted by British director Edmund Goulding and opened to mixed reviews by critics.

Filming for the upcoming adaptation will begin in Toronto in early 2020 for a potential 2021 release.

“Nightmare Alley” is the latest project Del Toro is working on and the first since his Oscar win for the 2017 feature “The Shape of Water.” While he has not directed a film since then, he did produce this year’s “Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark.” Next year he will also be producing Scott Cooper’s next film “Antlers.”

McCallany has just come off of the second season of “Mindhunter” and is awaiting word on a third season of the Netflix original series. The actor is also attached to Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film “Cash Truck,” a remake of a 2004 French crime thriller.
