'Castle' Season 8 Spoilers: Stana Katic Signs New Contract To Return; 2015 Season Will Not Be Show's Last
False alarm! Stana Katic is coming back after all! Fans watching the Season 7 finale of “Castle” Monday night were worried that they may be watching the last of Katic as Kate Beckett on the popular ABC series. However, one day after the finale aired the actress inked a new contract and is all set to return to the show in the fall.
Though “Castle” had been renewed for an eighth season and co-star Nathan Fillion had signed on to return as mystery writer Rick Castle, Katic was still entangled in contract negotiations, leaving her fate unclear. The season finale did not do anxious viewers any favors, leaving the character’s fate very open ended in case she did not come back for another year.
In the Season 7 finale, “Hollander’s Woods,” Katic’s Beckett was presented with a new job opportunity. After her years of service in the police force, the detective was given the chance to run for the New York State Senate! Her new husband was fully behind her no matter what she chose, but Beckett’s decision remained a cliffhanger at the episode’s end.
Luckily, fans will get to see her make the choice next fall. According to Entertainment Weekly, Katic officially signed a new contract Tuesday to return to the show for Season 8. Furthermore, ABC President Paul Lee got out ahead of any renewal drama beyond Season 8, promising that next year would not be the final run. Lee told reporters he'd like to see the show continue "for many years to come."
Katic will come back to a very different show. The showrunners behind the procedural drama will be new next season as “State of Affairs” creator Alexi Hawley and “Castle” veteran Terence Paul Winter will take over for outgoing executive producer David Amann.
Will Beckett go for the new gig as a State Senator, or will she continue on in the police force towards her original goal of becoming Captain? Fans will have to wait to find out. “Castle” will be back in the fall for Season 8 and, thankfully, so will Katic.
