'Catherine' Classic PC: Why You Should Get This Now Despite Upcoming Full Body Version
After hidden teasers in another Steam store page, Atlus has released "Catherine" Classic to PC. It’s technically a port of the game’s PS3/Xbox 360 version, but the company is also planning to release the improved “Full Body” version with more content later this year. Here’s why you would want to buy this version now ratherthan wait for Full Body’s PC release.
As seen on the "Catherine" Classic’s Steam page, the port is just four days old and has already racked many positive reviews. So far, the port hasn’t been experiencing many technical issues even when its minimum requirements are satisfied.
Similar to its release back in 2011, "Catherine" is a mix of a puzzle game and a dating simulator as you play Vincent Brooks. In the story, Vincent is already engaged with a woman named Katherine. However, complications arise within the relationship as a mysterious woman named Catherine seduces him, and he starts experiencing nightmares that involves climbing towers to save his life. The gameplay is equal parts making crucial dialogue decisions and solving the nightmare puzzles to get the story rolling and earn your ending. "Catherine" Classic has multiple endings and will decide the conclusion of Vincent’s relationship.
More than just simply asking Vincent the hard questions, the players themselves are put in the hot seat as each nightmare has a set of questions that hit home. Players can choose to answer these questions truthfully, and there are no right answers. Each question can be intriguing depending on the person and can easily be a good source of video content for Twitch or Youtube.
Potentially, the "Catherine" Classic might be a one-time test for Atlus if they have a PC market. If this game gets more purchases, it’s possible that they will push out the Full Body upgrade to "Catherine" Classic for free to existing owners. For now, Atlus has yet to announce when the "Catherine" Full Body version is dropping to PC. The developers, P Studio, has rarely announced any titles outside Sony consoles. Depending on the success of this game on Steam, it’s possible that even the P Studio’s popular "Persona" series can be released on PC.
